Shoulder Injuries

The most common upper limb injuries we see at Advanced Physiotherapy are Rotator Cuff Injuries/Impingement Syndrome of the Shoulder. These injuries are known as Tendinopathies and require specially designed exercise programs and customised advice to achieve good results. Frozen Shoulder is also common, and how it is treated depends on whether it is in the early, middle or late phase.

Advanced Physiotherapy has treated more than 5000 shoulder injuries over the last 15 years.

Common shoulder injuries we treat include:

  • Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Impingement Syndrome
  • AC Joint Injuries

Physiotherapy is an essential part of the management of Frozen Shoulder, Impingement Syndrome, Rotator Cuff injury and AC Joint injuries. The choice of treatment will vary according to the condition but will usually consist of exercises. It will often also include Dry Needling (for occasional patients), massage and stretching.

Rotator Cuff Impingement

A systematic review of the evidence for exercise in the treatment of Rotator Cuff Impingement published in the 'Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery' in 2009 concluded that exercise has significant effects on pain reduction and on improving function. Manual therapy augments the effects of exercise. The 'Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine 2009' examined the effects of physiotherapy in patients with Shoulder Impingement Syndrome, and concluded that physiotherapy was as effective as surgery for the sample studied.
