Piriformis Syndrome

The piriformis muscle attaches between the sacrum and the upper femur and is found deep in the butt. This nerve runs beneath or sometimes through the deep Piriformis muscle in the gluteal area. If this muscle becomes tight it can irritate the nerve resulting in buttock, leg or foot pain.

This condition is a result of an overload of the local muscles in the area. This condition is often aggravated by; prolonged sitting, stair climbing, ladders and squats.

Piriformis Syndrome

Treatment involves stretching of the local muscles, manual therapy, activity modification and a graded strengthening program as symptoms settle if this is required
